Hello, I'm Ellen and I'm the owner and creator of illustrateNow.
I started illustrateNow's Instagram account on July 3rd, 2015.

What is illustrateNow?

Simply put illustrateNow is an art sharing account on Instagram.
But since, it has grown into so much more than that, it's a place to find out about other artists and find new and interesting inspiration.

Why is illustrateNow Different?

There are plenty of art sharing accounts being created each day.
So what makes illustrateNow so different from the others?
Being an artist myself I feel like I have a unique perspective on the whole thing. I know all too well the annoyance and frustration of spending so much time creating a piece of artwork, posting it up online and having no one see it.

You can't help the questions that run through your head; 'What am I doing wrong?', 'Am I not good enough?' , 'Why is that artist getting so much more followers and likes than me?' and the worst question of all 'Should I just give up?'

the worst question of all ‘Should I just give up?’
I have been there and it’s not a fun place to be!

I have been there and it's not a fun place to be!
But I can honestly say there is nothing wrong with you, the internet is like the world's largest marketplace. With countless of different people shouting about what they are selling. The noise is so loud that people just can't 'hear' you when you post your one image. This doesn't mean they don't like it, they just haven't seen it yet!

illustrateNow is like having a big store front or a super loud megaphone, people stop buy to find new artists to follow and like. That way getting more eyes on your artwork and then point them to your 'stall'.

Anyway enough with my silly marketplace analogy! I still haven't answered why illustrateNow is different.

illustrateNow isn't a place for self-promotion, I delete any self-promotional comments, it is a place to celebrate the artist getting featured! I couldn't think of anything worst than getting my artwork shared by an account and for the 100s of comments to be 'I draw too, check out my account' How rude!
I encourage complements and questions to the featured artist. Also tagging your friends to show off the new art you have found. Social media is all about communication and sharing, with proper credit given of course!

I love to talk to my followers and ask what they would like to see more of or new fun ideas for competitions and themed week events.

As art is all about self-improvement, we never stop learning! I have weekly Critique posts where the chosen artist says what they felt didn't go right on their image and the illustrateNow community comment on any hints and tips. Getting critique can be scary at times, but the illustrateNow community is very friendly!
